URAL

URAL refers to the Ural Mountains, a 2,500 km long mountain chain that runs from the Kazakh steppes to the shores of the Arctic Ocean. The Urals are the natural border between Europe and Asia; a boundary between the manipulated nature and the pristine wilderness: steppes, taiga, wetlands, tundra. The work focuses on the existential choice in contrast to the ecstatic ritual, on civilization in the face of the elements of nature, on the boundary between the conscious and the subconscious.

With this starting point, a visual concert is created, where abstract video and new live electronic score music for clarinetist, bassist and percussionist are integrated and synchronized in an artistic expression.

As an important – and for me new – element, analog electronic sound from a NORD keyboard mixes the digital sound from MaxMSP, which produces FM synthesis, granular synthesis, deviation sampling, spectral filtering, multi-channel processing is among the real-time techniques which especially in this work will be explored.
